History

The Rockwell Inn at Jackson Hole began its journey in 1970 as the Trapper Inn, founded by the Kudar family. For four decades, it welcomed travelers with authentic Western hospitality and a deep connection to the local community. In 2006, a major expansion and remodeling project elevated the property’s offerings, blending rustic charm with modern comfort.

In 2009, the Trapper Inn joined the Lexington Collection, gaining access to a broader network of hospitality excellence while continuing to operate under the leadership of Diana (Kudar) and Tim Waycott.

In 2012, we completed a full renovation of our Courtyard rooms, rebuilding them from the ground up with luxurious finishes and thoughtful design.

Most recently, in 2024, we proudly rebranded as The Rockwell Inn, marking a new chapter in our legacy. That same year, we completed a transformative renovation of our two suite buildings. These spacious accommodations were reimagined to offer an elevated guest experience, featuring upgraded interiors, modern amenities, and custom details that reflect the spirit of Jackson Hole. The Rockwell Inn continues to honor its roots while embracing the future of mountain hospitality.

As a unique, family-owned hotel, The Rockwell Inn boasts a wide variety of finely furnished guest rooms. Our two Queen Suites & Luxury King rooms offer a spacious, modern luxury. Is it “Jackson” or “Jackson Hole”?

“Jackson” refers to the actual town of Jackson, which was incorporated in 1914. “Jackson Hole” refers to the entire valley area, including the communities of Wilson, Teton Village, Kelly, Moran, and Jackson.

The name references Davey Jackson, a beaver trapper of local fame, as well as a geologic feature called a hole, where the land continuously sinks due to plate tectonics. For many years, The Rockwell’s home was referred to as “Jackson’s Hole” but, now, you’ll notice the old apostrophe has been dropped. So, both terms are accurate, depending on whether you are discussing the town or the valley area.

The Rockwell Inn has a convenient, center-of-everything location in downtown Jackson, Wyoming. Located just 1.5 blocks Jackson’s famous Town Square, guests are close to dining, shopping, entertainment, as well as wilderness adventures and outdoor recreation.
